External and Internal Shoplifting Prosecution Policy Survey

Relatively little research has addressed factors that limit victims’ decisions to prosecute shoplifters. Since these decisions have important consequences for offenders, it’s important to understand corporate policies that influence these decisions. LPRC researchers conducted a short survey of 16 leading U.S. retailers. The aim of the survey is to understand at which loss-value and age thresholds corporations prosecute shoplifters and/or dishonest associates. This will provide insight to retailers about policy implementation regarding both internal and external shoplifting.
