Physical Security Anti Violence R&D Strome Giblin Lin Hayes 2017

The LPRC conducted a survey of 300 customers on perceptions of comfort and safety, and customer support for anti-violence technologies in five big box test stores designated as high-crime locations. Two were located in Texas, two in Minnesota, and one in California.
Overall, customers felt both safe and comfortable, even in stores designated as high-crime locations. Women who shopped at nighttime exhibited lower levels of comfort and safety. Similarly, individuals who had been approached by panhandlers felt less safe and less
comfortable. These effects were more pronounced at night.
