Learning Labs Round OneOutside the Box: The Role of Retail in Community Crime PreventionMany retailers are in their community, but are they really a part of it? Community members are always coming to them, but are retailers going out into the community? This session will review the principles of community-based crime prevention and discuss opportunities for retailers to take broader and innovative approaches to crime prevention in the communities they serve. Presented by: Cory Lowe, Innovation Team Leader – LPRC Tackling the Out-of-Stock Problem Through Strategic PartnershipsWe know that out-of-stocks are bad for customer service, but what can we do about it? In this two-part session, we will map out the customer journey to better understand how shoppers react when their favorite products aren’t on the shelf. We will then hear from Proctor and Gamble’s own Galina Hoppe as she discusses how to leverage strategic partnerships to tackle this costly problem. Presented by: |

Learning Labs Round TwoThe Freedom to Choose: Is the “Value Exchange” a Solution to the Locked Case Dilemma?Locking showcases are increasingly used to protect merchandise; unfortunately, they can result in lost sales, increased labor costs, and shopper dissatisfaction. Indyme’s Freedom Case enables self-service access to locked merchandise by asking shoppers to exchange personally identifiable information for convenience. Join us as we share the latest research on this “Value Exchange” – how do shoppers view the locked case experience, what forms of PII are shoppers willing to trade, and are there differences across demographic groups? Retailers can leverage these research findings to consider how the the value exchange can be used across the AP spectrum. Presented by: Sponsored By: Exploring the Intersection Between the Environment and the Individual in Cases of Retail Gun ViolenceWhether in-store, in distribution centers, or in the office, gun violence is an unfortunate reality across the retail enterprise. To effectively mitigate the risk of violence, we need to understand what drives assailants to act, and how the environment around them plays a role. Join us as we delve into the micro and macro-level factors influencing gun violence and discuss the types of policies we can use to manage the risk of future events. Presented by: Sponsored By: |

Intelligence-Led Loss Prevention: Improving Outcomes with Event-Based DataRFID was introduced to streamline the inventory process, but this was just the beginning. Soon, retailers recognized that this technology, and others, could be used for investigating retail crimes; this strategy revealed the importance of using technologies that generate data, because this data can be used to build intelligence. Join us as we discuss how intelligence-led loss prevention using the right technologies can promote successful ORC investigations, as well as provide data to improve LP/AP programs. Lunch & Learn Event: Leveraging Government Partnerships in the Fight Against Retail CrimeIn collaboration with the University of Florida’s Office of Government and Community Affairs, state and federal government representatives will be invited to discuss current challenges across the retail enterprise and ways retailers can partner to help solve their most pressing issues. Learning Labs Round ThreeSynergy and Science: How Collaboration Leads to Evidence-Based Loss PreventionTo maximize safety and security, retailers must use effective strategies to secure their facilities. However, conducting good research is only one piece of this puzzle. This session is designed to explore ideas around collaboration, particularly around how leading retail executives partner with solution partners, and strategies around improving these relationships moving forward. Presented by: Defining Organized Retail Crime: Getting on the Same Page about ORCDespite being a widespread and potentially catastrophic phenomenon, the truth is that there is still much more to learn about ORC as an industry. One of the most fundamental issues is that we must establish a definition of ORC that retailers can agree on. This year, the LPRC surveyed 116 LP/AP professionals to understand their definition of ORC; next, we created a definition using common elements from retailers’ definitions. Join us as we discuss the importance of having an industry-wide definition, present the results of this research, and discuss the proposed definition. Presented by: Sponsored By: |

Learning Labs Round FourA Good Day for a Bad Guy: An Application of Warehouse Design and Red Guest Pathways to CrimeDuring the 2021 Supply Chain Summit, LPRC Members were tasked with designing their “ideal” distribution centers. In this interactive “choose your own adventure”-style session, we will put these designs to the test by taking the perspective of retail offenders. Will the DCs be a match against seasoned offenders? Let’s find out! Presented by: Curbside Pickup: Keeping Checkout Simple, Safe, and SecureMany retailers are turning to curbside pickup to add extra convenience to the customer experience. However, it has also created more challenges around theft, fraud, and safety. With Verizon’s Mike Currier, we will discuss current strategies around curbside pickup, using results from retailer and customer research to plan for the future. Presented by: |
