THE LPRC CONDUCTS RESEARCH TO DEVELOP CRIME AND LOSS CONTROL SOLUTIONS THAT IMPROVES THE PERFORMANCE OF ITS MEMBERS AND THE INDUSTRY.

BACKGROUND

Founded in 2001 by leading retailers and Dr. Read Hayes in an effort to support the evidence-based needs of loss prevention decision-makers. Founding retailers include Target, Walmart, OfficeMax, CVS, GAP, Home Depot, Beall’s, Barnes and Noble and has grown to over 45 major retail chains today! To date the LPRC has conducted over 90 real world loss prevention research projects for retailers and partners. The scope of these projects include:

    • Large-scale field experiments to provide decision-makers with impact and ROI data
    • Development of statistical models for shortage reduction
    • Employee dishonesty and shoplifter dynamics research
    • Supply chain and violent crime R&D

DIRECTOR

Read Hayes, PhD, CPP

Dr. Read Hayes started as a store detective in retail loss prevention and has over 30 years’ of hands-on crime and loss control experience working with organizations worldwide. A Co-Director of the Loss Prevention Research Team at the University of Florida, and Director of the retailer-supplier coalition Loss Prevention Research Council. Dr. Hayes’ co-founded the University of Florida’s globally used National Retail Security Surveyin 1989, and has conducted over 75 LP field research projects. He has spoken at over 100 conferences, and is the author of over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles, 150 magazine articles, and four top selling books, and provides crime prevention expertise to FoxNews, CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, NPR, Oprah, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, BusinessWeek, Forbes, Fast Company, USA Today and the BBC.

Senior Research Scientist

Mike Giblin

Mike Giblin’s background is in Marketing Research and Consumer Behavior, with an emphasis on consumer psychology, judgment and decision making (JDM), and environmental cues that affect buying and consumption behavior. Originally from upstate NY, Mike received his BA in Psychology at SUNY Buffalo. His work with the Cornell Food and Brand Lab sent him on a path to sunny Gainesville Florida, where he received a MS in Marketing Research at the University of Florida Warrington College of Business and first immersed himself in the Loss Prevention side of retail.  Mike currently leads the LPRC Research team, working with Director Dr. Read Hayes to shape, manage, and execute the LPRC’s yearly research load. He writes a monthly column for LP Magazine, and has been featured on Fox News, ABC News, and in depth on Fox Network

Jessi Dudley

Jessi Dudley is an administrative professional born and raised in Ocala, Florida just south of Gainesville.  Working as an administrator for the majority of her life, she brings years of experience to the LPRC.  She is in charge of day to day operations and likes the task of keeping our team in line!  Not knowing much about the LP world she has found this experience to be very informative, challenging and is excited to learn more.  Jessi attended the University of North Florida in Jacksonville receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography.  Although this is not her primary trade she enjoys shooting in her spare time.

Stephanie Lin

Stephanie is a graduate from the University of Florida receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Statistics and a minor in Actuarial Science.  She was heavily involved in student activities and enjoys crunching numbers!  We believe she is a great addition to our team.

Research Scientist

Stuart Strome

Stuart received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Florida in 2014. Before joining the LPRC, he worked for the University of Florida Institute for Agriculture, where his research examined environmental determinants of health behavior, and formulating and evaluating solutions to mitigate food insecurity in food deserts. Stuart specializes in survey research, research design and methodology, and human behavioral science, and has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including Foreign Policy Analysis and the International Quarterly of Community Health Education. He continues to teach political science courses at both the University of Florida and Santa Fe College. Stuart is the newest addition to our research team, and enjoys researching the human psychological and behavioral aspects of loss prevention.
