We would like to highlight some of our employee’s favorite attractions to see while in Gainesville. This week, we are featuring some fantastic museums.

The Florida Museum of Natural History

  • Conveniently located on UF Campus, the Florida Museum of Natural History has a variety of exhibits, from crocs and gorillas to the rich history of Florida’s land and animals. Outside is the Lost Bird Project, featuring extinct birds cast in bronze. The museum also includes the beloved Butterfly Rainforest which is home to birds, turtles, fish, and of course, free-flying butterflies.

Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art

  • Right next door to the Natural History Museum is the Harn Museum of Art. The Harn’s collections and exhibitions focus on African, Asian, modern and contemporary art, and photography with significant representation of Ancient American and oceanic art, as well as a growing collection of natural history works on paper. There are also three walkable gardens outside.

Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention

  • A couple-minutes drive from LPRC’s labs is the new Cade Museum. The museum focuses on innovation in its many forms, having a permanent interactive exhibit on Gatorade, and will be featuring the science of football as well as the art behind Cuban inventions.

Matheson History Museum

  • Interested in learning more about the history of Gainesville and Florida? Then the Matheson History Museum is for you! The museum features cool collections of postcards, photographs, stereoview cards and more from early Florida. There is also a self-guided cellphone tour of the area available.
